About

I am a consultant orthopedic surgeon currently based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.I completed my training in the largest orthopedic center and teaching hospital in the country where I now work as the youngest faculty in the sport and arthroscopy unit.

What made you join IODA?

I have always been passionate about advancing orthopedic training in low resource settings, and I believe access to quality orthopedic care should be a part of our everyday activity in spite of our background.IODA’s platform provides the perfect opportunity to advocate for global health equity.

How have you approached DEI in your workplace?

Diversity, equity, and inclusion is best approached by inviting people of all backgrounds to the table and allowing them to collectively create need based and tailored solutions to the global health problem.

How do you define inclusion?

I define Inclusion as the ability to implement equity in providing support, and opportunities to people of different backgrounds with various barriers to tackle.

What is your proudest achievement?

I am very proud of my hard work, and the career milestones I have achieved so far, but I believe my biggest achievement is having my mother be proud of the woman, and the daughter I have become.
